Pleasant Valley has lots of staff who do the best to keep our school a safe and healthy place. There are the teachers that are there both to educate and support our students, the members of administration who keep this school running behind the scenes, and the campus supervisors who patrol the school to keep it secure and connect with the students on a daily basis. One of these Campus supervisors is John Forayter, a supervisor well known by students and staff alike. John loves to keep busy throughout the day, but he still made time to sit down and talk about the many things that make up his day-to-day schedule.
When it comes to lunch, there’s a few things that John likes to eat depending on where he gets it from. When eating out, his favourite place to eat is Celestino’s Pizza, and when he packs a lunch he likes to make a turkey and salami sandwich with havarti cheese. Sometimes the Culinary Department will make food for the staff members on Thursdays or Fridays, and John enjoys eating the lunch they make too.
John does a long list of things around school to keep it running smoothly and safely. He believes that making sure the campus is secure and safe is what comes first. This means making sure that only students and staff of Pleasant Valley are allowed in the school, preventing strangers or other people from getting access to campus when people are going in-and-out of campus, though this doesn’t happen often compared to other things that John does. One of the most common things he says he does is enforcing the hall pass policy, “making sure kids are in classes because if kids are out of class they are not learning.” John and other campus supervisors will also keep students with free periods from disrupting classes. These are examples of some of the most common and important work John does as a campus supervisor, but this work isn’t what he enjoys doing the most.
One of the most important things John and some other staff members do in our school is connecting with and mentoring kids who need help. He smiles and welcomes students daily and will do little things to give PV a ‘pleasant’ atmosphere. When students are struggling with something he tries to let them know he can be trusted if they need someone to talk to, or if they need help with something else. He says he wants students to know “If something comes up, they can confide in us to help them have a better experience here at Pleasant Valley High School.” There is a very small population of students at PV who do not attend any classes, and John and other staff try to mentor and talk with these kids, wanting to convince them to keep going to classes and learn so they can graduate and be successful. John also finds the Wellness Center very useful for students who need a break, and a great tool kids can use. Relating to students at PV is one of his favorite parts of the job, and is one of the reasons he is so well known by students and staff alike.
Sometimes John doesn’t need to do anything for his job, yet he still wants to and tries to help out with whatever he can to help people at PV. Whether it’s keeping campus clean of trash, making deliveries to classrooms, helping set up sports games, or making sure every class has an ample amount of supplies, there is always something to be done, and that’s a part of his job John enjoys. He takes pride in his job and this school, and so he does as much as he can to help out. John also likes to keep busy because that’s what a good job should do. He said “Pick a profession or a job that you like doing and you keep busy at, because if you don’t you’ll be bored.” There is also an array of different tasks he does to help out individual people whenever they need. Whenever he’s assisting someone he tells them “Hey, if you ever need anything (…), I’d be happy to help.” Campus supervisors like John are the backbone of our school, and they do lots to keep PV as safe and secure a place as it is.
Students see John around campus often doing one thing or another, and some students were asked about John and what they see him doing to help out at PV.

Hunter Alderman is a Senior at Pleasant Valley, and he said he will see John “Patrolling campus, making sure kids are doing the right thing.” He thinks John is cool and finds it impressive that he’s worked at PV longer than Hunter has gone there.

Ava Thompson, a Sophomore at PV, says she will see John picking up trash and cleaning campus, and she said that “John is very nice.”

Giselle Cruz is a Freshman at Pleasant Valley who usually sees John cleaning campus or travelling in his golf cart, and thinks John is “nice and funny.”
Throughout Campus students all see John hard at work to keep our school safe and clean, and sometimes it might seem like no one is noticing or caring. But throughout our school people do see him and all the work he does, they notice how he is always friendly and welcoming, and they watch him keep busy nonstop to do all he can to help. John is one of the staff here at PV that makes the Viking family so amazing.
