Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, California holds the annual Gold Cup race of champions. Silver Dollar is a ¼ mile long track that holds many well known drivers and events such as Mini Gold Cup, Gold Cup, The Tyler Wolf Memorial, Michael Tarter memorial, Summer Nationals, Speed week, and much more.
The Gold Cup was through September 7-9th. The Gold Cup welcomes racers and fans from around the country each year. As well as racing there’s tons of events within the three days such as the bikini contest (paid $5,069 to the winner), Corn Hole tournaments, after parties, concerts, an annual chili feed, and meet&greets. Racers from the country come together and race in The Gold Cup such as Pennsylvania, Florida, Texas, and Iowa. Fans from around the world come to Chico just to experience the thrills of The Gold Cup. Ethan Lashley, an outlaw kart driver states. “The Gold cup was full of fun. The 3 nights of racing were full of action and excitement.”
Silver Dollar Speedway has three track promoters. Kyle Larson, a professional race car driver and Nascar Cup champion, Brad sweet a World Of Outlaws driver (where he has gotten the nickname ¨The big Cat¨), and lastly, Colby Copeland a sprint car driver that has grown up in California.
Saturday’s finale includes a 40 lap main event and a purse of $25,000 to the winner. The 69th annual Gold Cup would count up to as many as 110 cars and only 24 would make it to the end of Saturday’s finale. The 2023 Gold Cup champion was Corey Day as he led all 40 laps. Corey Day grew up racing in California. When he decided to run in the Midwest, he made a great impression. Chico has many gems and events like racing that one may not have even heard of!
